Aston Martin Vantage Engine

It is dazzling with its straight-line speed, thrilling with its cornering powers and deafening with the howl of its new 4.7 litre, 420bhp engine. This Aston Martin V8 Vantage would be impossible to dislike.

Aston Martin has used the Vantage name on a number of vehicles, normally indicating a high-performance version of another model. In one case, 1972–1973, the Vantage was a distinct model, being a straight-6 powered version of the (normally V8) DBS and successor to the DB-series.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is a supreme example of modern automotive design, a hand-crafted sports car that offers exceptional performance, outstanding agility and everyday usability.

At the heart of every great sports car is a great engine, and the V8 Vantage Coupe and Roadster are powered by Aston Martin’s 313 kW (420 bhp) 4.7-litre V8, developed for both flexibility and outright performance. The V8 also sounds spectacular and is capable of propelling the car to a maximum speed of 290 km/h (180 mph).

Some of the aluminum extrusions, like those framing the engine bay and bolstering the cockpit structure, are so luscious the designers decided they were better off not covering them at all.

The V8 Vantage is a true high-performance sports car. The engine is so willing, the handling so predictable, the visibility so good and the controls so easy to use that it is as comfortable in town or city as it is on winding country roads or even a demanding race circuit.

The V8 Vantage epitomises Aston Martin’s approach to design: a commitment to engineering excellence without aesthetic compromise. Each model shares the same beautiful form, undeniably modern yet with a direct lineage to some of the great Aston Martin models of the past, such as the DB2, DB2/4 and DB4. As either a closed coupe with rakishly sleek lines, or a convertible of unmatched elegance, the V8 Vantage combines beauty with power and practicality.

On paper, the 0-60mph sprint is reduced by a mere 0.2sec to 4.7sec, while 5mph is added at the top end to give a 180mph maximum. The new motor is a shade quieter than the 4.3 litre unit, which made an inimitable, ear-shredding shriek, and as such, feels less urgent.

Vantage GT4 engine

Aston Martin Racing released the 2009 specification Vantage GT4 based on Aston Martin’s new 4.7 litre V8 Vantage. The new Vantage GT4 builds on the success of its predecessor, the 4.3 litre Vantage N24.

The GT4 is based on the latest 4.7 litre V8 Vantage and is hand built by Aston Martin Racing. The 4.7 litre eight cylinder engine has an engine management system recalibrated for race use. It also has a free flow exhaust system and air filters, and the standard V8 dry sump lubrication system is retained, helping to prevent oil surge during cornering.
